Corina Gertz & Michaël Aerts
Corina Gertz & Michaël Aerts
Identity & Culture 14 February – 4 March 2023 How do identity and culture relate to each other? How do they come into being and how do they express themselves? These two concepts are an integral part of humankind. Both artists, Michaël Aerts and Corina Gertz, are committed in their art to visualize the preservation as well as the progress of culture. In her life project The Averted Portrait, Düsseldorf-based artist Corina Gertz photographs women in traditional dress from around the world. Her portraits tell of traditional knowledge, conventions, customs and traditions and reflect Gertz's interest in the aesthetic, political, social and cultural context. Michaël Aerts (b. 1979 in Dendermonde, Belgium) deals in his works with the cultural history of Europe and reflects on its development and relevance for our time. Insights from philosophy and science as well as forms of art and architecture from past centuries are reflected in his works both intellectually and formally. |
