Our New Cultures 20 November 2021 – 15 February 2022 In the exhibition "Our New Cultures" the Belgian artist Michaël Aerts (*1979) explores the cultural developments of humankind under the influence of increasing virtual and volatile physical mobility. In his sculptures, installations and drawings, he playfully transposes the function and meaning of their historical insignia into the present and precisely illustrates their validity for the present. For example, in his work "The Obelisk," Aerts developed a mobile sculpture made of airplane trolleys. With the question of the necessity of a new flexibility in mobility and space on the one hand, and the longing for continuity and continuity and the preservation of tradition on the other hand, Aerts reshuffles the cards under the influence of the pandemic. With works from various series, he creates a show in which past and future meet in an overall installation and reform in an imaginary space. |
