The Averted Portrait 11 June 2022 – 13 August 2022 In the exhibition "The Averted Portrait" the photographer and artist Corina Gertz explores the genre of the averted portrait. Her specific interests focus on aesthetic, political, social and cultural contexts. Her photographs revolve around traditional clothing and costumes. Many of the garments, shown in the photographs, are pieces inherited from generation to generation, which hold a long history and tradition. They are a manifestation of the preservation of traditional knowledge, of certain conventions, customs and practices. They tell of past craftsmanship, origin, family and social status, and thus reveal something about the identity of the wearer, without making their personal individuality visible. |
